Respite Care

Caring for a parent at home is hard, and everyone needs a rest. Respite care is a temporary, short-term stay that steps in for the care your family normally provides, so you can take a break or attend to personal matters knowing your loved one is safe.

What respite care means

What it is

A temporary or short-term stay that provides care in place of the existing arrangement with family members.

What it does

It gives family members with caring responsibilities a break from the caring role, or time to attend to personal matters.

What type of care it is

Anything from companionship and everyday help to personal care. It continues the type of care your loved one already receives.

How long it lasts

It depends on your circumstances. A stay can be anything from a day up to weeks or months.

What a stay includes

A respite guest receives exactly the same care as a long-term resident.

  • A furnished private room
  • 24-hour personal care and oversight
  • Three meals and two snacks a day
  • Mechanical, puréed and renal diets
  • Medication management, including insulin
  • Cards, music, crafts and the garden
  • Housekeeping and laundry
  • Visiting 9 am to 6 pm, every day

Booking a stay

  1. Call us. Tell us the dates and what kind of help your loved one needs.
  2. Visit. Tour the community together, any day from 9 am to 6 pm.
  3. Share the routine. Medications, meals, sleep and the small things that matter to them.
  4. Take your break. Call any time during the stay to hear how they are doing.

Respite stays are private pay. Call as early as you can, so we can plan the room and the care.
